Convert HT to another file type
To convert your HT file to another format, you need HyperTerminal or other Settings software.
Convert a file to HT
To convert other file formats to the "Terminal Session Configuration" file type, you need software like HyperTerminal or a similar tool.
About HT files
The .HT file extension is most frequently associated with HyperTerminal, a terminal emulation program originally developed by Hilgraeve and bundled with older versions of Microsoft Windows (95 through XP). These files act as configuration containers, storing critical session parameters like COM port selection, baud rate (e.g., 9600), parity, stop bits, and flow control settings to automate connections to modems, routers, and industrial hardware. Since HyperTerminal was removed from Windows Vista and later versions, modern users often find themselves with legacy .HT files they cannot open. However, because these are essentially plain text files structured like INIs, they can be easily converted to TXT or PDF for viewing settings without the original software.
A significant secondary use (approx. 7%) is for Humminbird GPS devices, where .HT files store track logs (breadcrumbs of where a boat has traveled). Unlike the text-based HyperTerminal files, these are proprietary data files that must be converted to GPX (GPS Exchange Format) using tools like GPSBabel to be viewable in Google Earth or other mapping software. Less commonly, .HT files may contain waveform data from Hantek digital oscilloscopes or PLU data for Hobart retail scales.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HT file to TTC, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV or PROPERTIES, you can use HyperTerminal or similar software from the "Terminal Emulation Settings" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to HT, try HyperTerminal or another comparable tool in the "Terminal Emulation Settings" category.
The HT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HT converter.
