Convert HT to another file type
To convert HT sessions to another format, you need HyperTerminal or other Settings software.
Convert a file to HT
To convert other file formats to the "Terminal Connection Settings" file type, you need software like HyperTerminal or a similar tool.
About HT files
The .ht file extension is primarily a HyperTerminal Session File originally used by Microsoft HyperTerminal (developed by Hilgraeve). It stores terminal emulation connection settings such as COM port assignments, baud rates, parity, and stop bits used for serial communication. Historically, these files were opened by Microsoft HyperTerminal, which was bundled with Windows up to Windows XP, or modern alternatives like Tera Term or PuTTY. The main disadvantage of the .ht format is that it is completely obsolete, proprietary, and unsupported in modern Windows operating systems. Users face immense frustration because they cannot natively open these old configuration files on modern computers without tracking down legacy software. Converting these files to TXT or XML is recommended to preserve the connection parameters in a universally readable format. For rarer variations like Hantek oscilloscope waveforms or Humminbird sonar data, exporting to CSV is crucial for data analysis. The .ht file is a closed, proprietary format, which is why standard online converters fail to process it - they expect common document types, not legacy communication settings or raw waveform data. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HT file to TTC, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV or PROPERTIES, you can use HyperTerminal or similar software from the "Terminal Emulation Session Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to HT, try HyperTerminal or another comparable tool in the "Terminal Emulation Session Configuration" category.
The HT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HT converter.
