About HSE files
The .hse extension primarily refers to a HOT2000 House Data file, a proprietary format developed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). These files are the industry standard for low-rise residential energy modeling, containing detailed thermal parameters, geometry, and mechanical system data used to calculate EnerGuide ratings and R-2000 certifications.
The main limitation with .hse files is their high barrier to entry. They are designed exclusively for the HOT2000 simulation engine, a specialized desktop application that often requires registration or certification to use effectively. Users frequently encounter these files when trying to review energy audits but find themselves unable to open them without the specific software installed. Additionally, in legacy industrial contexts, an .hse file might be an EDIFACT message related to Health & Safety Executive data interchange, which appears as a confusing block of alphanumeric text if opened in a standard editor.
To make this data accessible, the most practical solution is conversion. For archiving or sharing energy reports with homeowners, converting the report output to PDF is the standard. If you need to analyze the raw thermal data or process EDIFACT segments, converting the file to CSV (Comma-Separated Values) or XML allows you to import the dataset directly into Microsoft Excel or database tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HSE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HSE file to JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO, RS or SWIFT, you can use HOT2000 or similar software from the "Energy Simulation Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to HSE, try HOT2000 or another comparable tool in the "Energy Simulation Data" category.
The HSE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HSE converter.
