About HSE files
The .HSE file extension usually represents a HOT2000 House File or an EDIFACT Message File. HOT2000 files are used by Natural Resources Canada to store energy simulation data for residential buildings. They contain structural details, insulation values, and energy consumption models. Alternatively, in enterprise logistics, .HSE files store Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport (EDIFACT) messages managed by software like EDI Notepad. These formats present major disadvantages. HOT2000 .HSE files are strictly proprietary. You cannot open them without installing the official HOT2000 software, which is primarily designed for Windows. They do not natively export to modern web formats. Similarly, EDIFACT .HSE files contain dense, machine-readable text segments that are completely unreadable to the average user without an EDI parser. Users frequently need to convert .HSE files to CSV, XML, or PDF to share energy reports with clients or to import EDI data into standard database systems. Unfortunately, standard online converters fail to process .HSE files because the simulation algorithms and EDI schemas are closed and complex. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, you often need the original software to properly read or export the data.
