About HR1 files
The .HR1 file is a HISE Resource Archive, a proprietary monolith format used by virtual instruments developed with the open-source HISE framework. These files function as locked containers that store the raw assets - typically high-quality audio samples, UI images, and script data - required by VST/AU plugins like the NEAT Player from IamLamprey.
A common issue for producers is treating this file like a standard audio clip. Because it is a compiled resource blob, it cannot be opened by double-clicking, nor will it play in standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player. Furthermore, most Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Ableton Live cannot import .HR1 files directly onto the timeline. This proprietary lock-in prevents users from accessing the individual drum hits, synth tones, or loops inside for use in other samplers.
To liberate your audio assets, the ideal workflow is to convert or extract the contents into open standards:
For Editing & Production: Convert extracted audio to WAV or AIFF. This ensures zero quality loss and maximum compatibility with all audio software.
For Storage: Convert to FLAC, which compresses the large sample data by roughly 50% without degrading audio fidelity.
If you want to convert HR1 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use HISE or similar software from the "Virtual Instrument Resource Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to HR1, try HISE or another comparable tool in the "Virtual Instrument Resource Container" category.
The HR1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HR1 converter.
