About HPW files

The .HPW extension primarily refers to a Process Hazard Analysis Project created by Primatech PHAWorks. These specialized databases store critical safety studies (like HAZOP and LOPA) used by engineers to identify risks in industrial facilities.

Because the format is proprietary to Primatech, .HPW files cannot be opened by standard office tools like Excel or Notepad. A common difficulty for project managers and auditors is receiving a raw .HPW file they cannot view without a paid license.

Best Conversion Targets for PHAWorks:

Less frequently (approx. 17%), an .HPW file may be a HiCAD Part File generated by ISD Group HiCAD, a 2D/3D CAD system. These files store 3D geometry and manufacturing data. They suffer from limited interoperability with major platforms like SolidWorks or AutoCAD. To use these in other systems, they should be converted to neutral formats like STEP or IGES.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HPW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WFP, FPC and SONG files.

The HPW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPW converter.
