About HPL30 files

The .hpl30 file is a proprietary construction layout project file. It is primarily used by Hilti PROFIS Layout and Leica Geosystems Cyclone 3DR to store job site surveying coordinates, 3D models, and point data. The main disadvantage of this format is severe vendor lock-in. Because the .hpl30 format is tied to a closed ecosystem of expensive hardware and a costly subscription model, sharing these layout files with external contractors or clients is highly problematic. Users cannot open or inspect the file natively in standard web browsers or generic CAD applications. You typically need to convert this file to DXF, DWG, or CSV to make the coordinate data readable in AutoCAD or spreadsheet software. However, standard online converters fail to process .hpl30 files because they lack access to the proprietary Hilti algorithms. This file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original software can properly read or export the internal 3D data. Fortunately, an .hpl30 file is structurally a standard ZIP archive.
