Most commonly, it is a project file generated by Malvern Panalytical HighScore (or HighScore Plus), the industry-standard software for X-ray diffraction (XRD) phase identification and crystallographic analysis. These files encapsulate complex analytical data, including scan parameters, peak lists, and identified phases, often compressed with zlib to save space. Users often deal with issues here: the format is proprietary and strictly tied to licensed, expensive scientific software. You cannot simply double-click an HPF file to view a crystal structure or diffraction pattern on a standard PC.
