Convert HCP to another file type

To convert HCP files to another format, you need Hardcopy Pro or other Raster Image software.

Convert a file to HCP

To convert other file formats to the "Hardcopy Screen Capture Image" file type, you need software like Hardcopy Pro or a similar tool.

About HCP files

The .HCP file extension primarily represents a Hardcopy Screen Capture image, but it is also used for HydroCAD Project Files and Hamiltonian Cycle Problem (FHCP) data. Depending on its origin, you will need the legacy Hardcopy Pro utility by DeskSoft, civil engineering software like HydroCAD, or mathematical parsers to open it natively.

The main disadvantage of .HCP files is their severe proprietary lock-in. If your file is a screen capture, standard operating systems treat it like random binary noise. Viewers like Windows Photos or macOS Preview cannot open it, making standard visual data inaccessible. If it is a HydroCAD project, it locks vital stormwater modeling data, rainfall distributions, and hydraulic calculations inside a closed system. Without an expensive license for the original software, you cannot view the drainage diagrams.

To make these files usable, conversion is highly recommended. Legacy screen captures should be converted to standard JPG or PNG formats for universal compatibility. For hydrology projects, you typically must export the data directly from the software into PDF reports for documentation or DWG and DXF for AutoCAD workflows. Graph data for FHCP is best exported to TXT or CSV.

Because these formats are either entirely closed or heavily rely on embedded proprietary data, standard online converters usually fail to process them properly. Often, only the original software can correctly read or export the file. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HCP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MCM, AKT, AMD and FCC files.

FAQ

If you want to convert HCP file to FCC, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT or X_T, you can use Hardcopy Pro or similar software from the "Screen Capture Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to HCP, try Hardcopy Pro or another comparable tool in the "Screen Capture Storage" category.

The HCP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HCP converter.
