About GZP files

A .GZP file is primarily associated with Synopsys Sentaurus TCAD, a suite of tools used for semiconductor process and device simulation. These files act as compressed containers - often using standard GZIP compression - to store large datasets, project structures, or simulation plots. While efficient for storage, the format presents significant friction: it is largely unrecognizable to standard OS tools without specific drivers, and the internal data is often proprietary to the Synopsys ecosystem. Users frequently encounter these files when archiving simulation runs or exchanging manufacturing data. A secondary but notable use is as a backup format for GanttProject, an open-source project management tool. In this context, the .GZP file is simply a compressed version of a standard GAN project file. To access the contents without the original software, users can often rename the extension to GZ or ZIP and extract it using utilities like 7-Zip or WinRAR. For specialized TCAD data, however, conversion to CSV or standard text formats usually requires exporting directly from the Synopsys environment.
