The .gzp file extension is primarily associated with Sentaurus TCAD (Technology Computer-Aided Design) software developed by Synopsys. It functions as a compressed project or simulation data file, frequently relying on standard GZIP compression algorithms to store enormous datasets generated during semiconductor modeling. Less commonly, it serves as a compressed game asset file for the classic 2000 PC game Sacrifice by Shiny Entertainment, or as a project backup file for the open-source management tool GanttProject.
Users typically interact with these files within Sentaurus TCAD or GanttProject. The major disadvantage of the .gzp format in the engineering context is its highly specialized, closed ecosystem. It requires an expensive, enterprise-level license for Synopsys software to natively read the proprietary semiconductor models contained within. Furthermore, sharing these massive simulation outputs with external teams who lack the software is virtually impossible without exporting the raw data first. Game asset .gzp files face similar hurdles, locked behind an outdated, undocumented game engine. Because .gzp files are deeply proprietary or use undocumented legacy game engines, they are difficult to open or convert outside their native environments. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the structured data.
