Convert GSX to another file type

To convert your GSX file to another format, you need Gens/GS or other Game software.

Convert a file to GSX

To convert other file formats to the "Emulation Saved State" file type, you need software like Gens/GS or a similar tool.

About GSX files

A .GSX file is a proprietary "save state" created by the Gens/GS emulator for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive). Unlike standard in-game battery saves (which use SRM or SAV and are widely compatible), a .GSX file is a binary dump of the emulator's emulated RAM, CPU, and VRAM at a specific frozen moment.

The Problem: Users typically encounter friction because .GSX files are strictly version-dependent. A save state created in an older version of Gens or Kega Fusion often fails to load in modern emulators like RetroArch or OpenEmu. This creates a "lock-in" effect where your progress is trapped in an obsolete piece of software.

The Solution:

Convert.Guru analyzes your GSX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GPX, 32X, GMV and GS0 files.

The GSX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GSX converter.
