A .GSS file serves several completely distinct purposes depending on the software that created it. Most frequently, it is a saved game file generated by the grand strategy game SuperPower 2. In academic and enterprise environments, a .GSS file is a statistical programming script written in the GAUSS language by Aptech Systems. Additionally, it is used as an XML-based GIS data file by Stonex Cube-a surveying software, or as a geometric construction script for Geometer's Sketchpad.
The primary disadvantage of the .GSS format is its extreme fragmentation and closed ecosystem.
