About PRK files

A .PRK file primarily serves as a saved game file for theme park simulation games like Planet Coaster by Frontier Developments, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, and Thrillville. These files store 3D terrain data, ride placements, guest statistics, and park layouts. In a completely different context, a .PRK file can also be a private cryptographic key file generated by Kaspersky Lab security software to authenticate users or decrypt data. The main disadvantage of .PRK game save files is their strict proprietary nature. A file saved in Planet Coaster cannot be opened in RollerCoaster Tycoon. They are closed binary files, often version-specific, meaning even an update to the game can sometimes break compatibility. Furthermore, they are useless outside of their native game engine and cannot be viewed in standard 3D modeling software or web browsers. Kaspersky .PRK files are intentionally encrypted and locked down; attempting to open them in a text editor usually displays scrambled characters. Converting a .PRK file to standard formats like OBJ, FBX, or PDF is generally impossible with standard online converters because the file lacks standard geometry or text data; it contains engine-specific coordinates and logic. Game saves are meant to be loaded directly by the game executable.
