About PRK files

The .PRK extension is primarily associated with Planet Coaster, a modern theme park simulation game developed by Frontier Developments. These files act as containers for entire park layouts, storing complex data including coaster tracks, terrain modifications, scenery placement, and ride statistics. Because .PRK files are proprietary binary blobs optimized for the game's Cobra engine, they cannot be opened in standard 3D software like Blender or AutoCAD directly. Users typically encounter these files when downloading shared parks from the Steam Workshop or backing up save data.

A secondary but significant use (approx. 8%) is found in the RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 community, where .PRK files represent saved parks or scenarios, often requiring legacy support or modern engines like OpenRCT2 to function correctly on newer operating systems. Additionally, Kaspersky Lab uses this format for private cryptographic keys, a security-critical file type that should never be converted or shared. For game files, the only reliable "conversion" workflow involves opening the file in its native game engine to export screenshots (JPG/PNG) or video content.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PRK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OVS, SGS and USA files.

The PRK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PRK converter.
