About GPT files

The .gpt extension is a "chameleon" format used in three distinct, high-stakes industries: IT administration, electronics engineering, and scientific modeling.

Most commonly, a .gpt file is a Citrix Group Policy Template, used by Citrix Workspace App and Citrix Studio to transport policy settings (like security configurations and printer mappings) between server farms. These are often binary or specialized XML blobs that are unreadable without the Citrix management console. IT professionals often need to "convert" these into human-readable TXT or HTML reports for auditing and documentation, a feature not always natively intuitive.

In the world of PCB design, .gpt stands for Gerber Pad Top (or Top Paste Mask), generated by Altium Designer. It contains vector instructions for manufacturing solder paste stencils. Engineers frequently need to convert these into PDF, DXF, or SVG to verify pad alignment visually or share specifications with fabrication houses that don't use Altium.

Less frequently, it is a ModelMuse Project file used by the USGS for groundwater modeling. These are plain text files defining spatial data, but their proprietary structure makes them hard to use outside the ModelMuse environment without conversion to standard CSV or DAT formats.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GPT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DOCX, PDF, JPG, CR, XDC, SOF and MBR files.

The GPT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GPT converter.
