About GAS files

The .gas file extension is shared by several distinct applications across different industries. The two most common implementations are game resource archives (including configuration files for titles like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) and Geoscience Analytic Suite data files used by REFLEX ioGAS. It is also occasionally used for proprietary label designs in Hama software.

Opening a .gas file natively requires knowing its specific origin. Geochemical data files demand REFLEX ioGAS, a highly specialized professional analysis tool. Game-related .gas files are typically read directly by the game engine developed by companies like Rockstar Games or Gas Powered Games, and usually require community-built modding tools to manipulate.

Users face significant challenges when trying to share or open .gas files because they are highly proprietary. Geochemical .gas files lock valuable tabular data behind expensive commercial software licenses. Game .gas files are often compiled binaries or heavily formatted scripts, making them completely unreadable in standard text editors or web browsers.

To make this data useful outside of its original environment, you must convert it. Geochemical data is best converted to CSV or XLSX for use in Microsoft Excel. Game configuration files can sometimes be parsed into plain TXT or XML formats. For Hama label files, exporting to PDF is the only reliable way to guarantee universal printing without format loss.

Because .gas formats are closed and proprietary, standard online converters universally fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data safely. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our system inspects the binary structure directly. Since ioGAS files are often standard ZIP archives internally, convert.guru can detect this embedded format, unpack the contents, and expose the raw data inside without needing the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GAS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PGT, NCP and STA files.

The GAS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GAS converter.
