About FZP files

The .FZP extension serves two distinct technical purposes, most commonly representing a Fritzing Part file. This is an XML-formatted text file used by the open-source Fritzing software to define the metadata of an electronic component, mapping its breadboard, schematic, and PCB views to external SVG graphics.

The Problem: Users frequently encounter raw .FZP files after unzipping a FZPZ (Fritzing Part Bundle) or when downloading custom parts from GitHub repositories. Because the .FZP file is strictly a definition file - containing only code and references - it is functionally useless on its own without the accompanying image files. Attempting to open it directly often results in a generic XML viewer or text editor opening, rather than the visual component users expect. Furthermore, proprietary formatting in the secondary use case - PTV Vissim vehicle records - locks valuable traffic simulation data inside a specific text layout that standard spreadsheet software parses poorly.

The Solution: For Fritzing users, the file is best viewed as XML or TXT to inspect pin assignments and file paths during debugging. If you are trying to install the part, you usually need to re-bundle it into a FZPZ archive. for PTV Vissim users, the goal is data extraction: converting these simulation logs to CSV or XLSX allows for immediate analysis of vehicle trajectories, speeds, and emissions in tools like Microsoft Excel or Python dataframes.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FZP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FZPZ, FZZ, FZ and RRB files.

The FZP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FZP converter.
