About FXA files

The .FXA file extension corresponds to the FaceFX Actor file, a legacy format developed by OC3 Entertainment. These files were the standard for defining facial animation data - including bone poses, node graphs, and phoneme mappings - in FaceFX versions prior to 2009 (v1.0–1.7.x). Game developers and animators used them to automate realistic lip-syncing for 3D characters in engines like Unreal Engine and Gamebryo.

Because .FXA is a proprietary, binary-compiled format designed for a specific runtime environment, it cannot be opened by standard media players (like VLC) or generic 3D viewers. It is not a video file. Users often encounter these files when modding older games or retrieving archived animation assets. To use this data in modern pipelines, you must import the file into FaceFX Studio and upgrade it to the modern FACEFX format, or export the animation data to FBX for use in Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, or Blender.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FXA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, FLP, FXT, FXL and EXA files.
