About EXA files

The .EXA file extension is notorious for being shared across several completely unrelated software platforms. Most commonly, it functions as an audio container or facial animation data file for video games like Mafia II and Mafia: Definitive Edition, utilizing the Illusion Engine or FaceFX Studio. However, the same extension is heavily used as a database backup file for the Turkish accounting software Veresiye 5 by EXABilişim, an ECG medical data file for CardioSoft, or an identification project file by Examine. Furthermore, some .EXA files are actually standard ZIP archives used by Tridium Niagara EXACT software, or self-extracting EXE files created by Paquet Builder. This extreme fragmentation is the biggest disadvantage of the format. You cannot know what the file contains just by looking at the extension. If you receive an .EXA file, you risk opening a proprietary database, an unplayable audio chunk, or a potentially harmful executable file. Standard media players and document editors will simply throw an error. Your conversion options depend entirely on the file's true internal structure. If it is a Tridium Niagara project, renaming it to ZIP allows you to extract the contents. Game audio variants might be extracted to WAV or MP3 using specific modding tools, but standard online converters will fail. Medical and backup variants usually cannot be converted to common formats without their original software, as they are securely structured to prevent data corruption. This file format is incredibly difficult to open or convert because of its closed, proprietary nature across multiple industries. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We will inspect the file header and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EXA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
