About FUZ files
.FUZ files are proprietary game dialogue audio containers used by Bethesda Game Studios in games like Skyrim and Fallout 4. These files combine compressed audio, typically in XWM or WAV format, with LIP (lip-sync) data to animate NPC mouths during speech. You can access these files using modding tools like the Creation Kit or specialized community extractors.
The main disadvantage of the .FUZ format is its closed, proprietary nature. Standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player cannot play them. Users cannot directly edit the audio for modding without first extracting the inner files. Furthermore, these files are completely unsupported by standard web browsers and restrict audio sharing outside the game engine.
To use or edit the audio, you need to convert .FUZ to WAV, XWM, or MP3. Be aware that extracting the audio will separate it from the LIP sync data, meaning the facial animation link is lost unless re-packed after editing.
Because it is a proprietary game asset format, standard online audio converters fail to process .FUZ files. Often, only the original software or specific modding tools can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, show its internal content, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FUZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FUZ file to WAV, MP3, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP or MAP, you can use Creation Kit or similar software from the "Game Dialogue Audio Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to FUZ, try Creation Kit or another comparable tool in the "Game Dialogue Audio Container" category.
The FUZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FUZ converter.
