Convert a file to FTD
To convert other file formats to the "Fragmented Data Format" file type, you need software like FormTool or a similar tool.
About FTD files
The .FTD file extension is heavily fragmented and used across multiple niche systems. Primarily, it serves as an electrofusion welding data log generated by FRIAMAT electrofusion units, or as an electronic form template used by FormTool. It is also utilized for satellite receiver firmware (ALI Corp STB), Sony mobile device firmware, FactoryTalk diagnostic data by Rockwell Automation, and game data tables by FromSoftware.
Depending on the source, you need the original software to open the file. For welding logs, you need proprietary FRIAMAT software. For forms, you need legacy FormTool software. For Sony firmware, you need the Sony Flashtool.
Users typically want to convert .FTD files because they are highly proprietary and incredibly difficult to open without the exact source software. Receiving an .FTD log file or form means you are locked out of the data unless you purchase specific industrial or legacy software. The formats are closed, and the data cannot be easily extracted for simple reporting. Firmware and game data variants are not designed to be opened by typical users at all.
When dealing with form templates, converting to standard PDF or DOCX is ideal, though complex macros and exact layouts might be lost. For data logs, extracting to CSV or TXT is best for analysis, but you may lose internal metadata.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it covers several undocumented structures. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the standard ZIP structure used in Sony firmware or the Microsoft Compound format used in FormTool - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FTD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FTD file to ASA, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use FormTool or similar software from the "Data Log & Form Template" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to FTD, try FormTool or another comparable tool in the "Data Log & Form Template" category.
The FTD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FTD converter.
