About FT files

The .FT extension represents a collision of several distinct technical formats, often creating confusion for users trying to access their content. Primarily, an .FT file is a proprietary font package used by Huami Amazfit and Xiaomi smartwatches. Unlike standard TTF or OTF files which use vector curves, these contain rasterized bitmap glyphs optimized for low-power wearable displays. Consequently, standard operating systems and design software like Adobe Illustrator cannot natively open or preview them, requiring specialized unpacking tools to view or modify the watch face aesthetics.

Beyond wearables, the extension is a legacy standard in broadcast television for the CasparCG Server, where .FT files serve as Flash-based graphic templates for on-air overlays. With the obsolescence of Adobe Flash, these files are increasingly difficult to edit or migrate. In the realm of data science, .FT may also indicate an Apache Arrow Feather file or a FastText model - high-performance binary formats designed for speed rather than human readability.

The FT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FT converter.
