About FOX files
The .FOX file extension is highly fragmented, predominantly used for three distinct purposes: a compiled program file for Microsoft Visual FoxPro, an email archive for Tencent Foxmail, and an XML game data file for the Fox Engine by Kojima Productions.
In the business sector, .FOX files are usually legacy FoxPro executables or compiled source code. These files are proprietary binary blobs. The main disadvantage is obsolescence: FoxPro was officially discontinued in 2007. Opening them requires a functioning legacy environment or expensive reverse-engineering decompilers. Attempting to open these in a standard text editor yields gibberish.
For users managing communications, a .FOX file is often an email database archive created by Foxmail. These files can easily exceed several gigabytes and lock your emails into a proprietary format. You cannot import a Foxmail .FOX file directly into modern clients like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird without first exporting the data through the original software.
For gamers and modders, .FOX represents structural game data used by the Fox Engine. Modding requires specific community-built tools like FoxTool.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format with multiple conflicting definitions, standard online converters routinely fail to process it. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can identify the file format, inspect the binary file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, like an XML structure or embedded EML email data, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FOX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FOX file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Microsoft Visual FoxPro or similar software from the "Program Code and Archives" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to FOX, try Microsoft Visual FoxPro or another comparable tool in the "Program Code and Archives" category.
The FOX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FOX converter.
