About JSF files

The .JSF file extension primarily represents a JavaServer Faces view page. These files are server-side web templates built using the Jakarta EE framework. They contain XML and HTML code used to dynamically generate web pages. Developers typically open and edit these files using IDEs like Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA.

However, a massive number of everyday users encounter .JSF files when downloading documents from web portals, such as banking or government sites. In these cases, the file is actually a dynamically generated PDF document, but the web server incorrectly assigned the .JSF extension instead of PDF.

The primary disadvantage of a pure JSF web template is that it requires a running Java server environment, like Apache Tomcat, to render correctly. Opening it in a browser locally only shows raw, unformatted code. For the misnamed PDF variant, the operating system does not know how to open it, causing immense frustration for users who just want to view their downloaded statement or receipt.

For developer JSF files, converting to standard HTML or TXT is the best way to share the raw code layout. For misnamed document downloads, the immediate solution is converting (or simply renaming) the file to PDF.

Because .JSF can represent entirely different underlying formats - raw code versus a compiled document - traditional converters often fail or return errors. Our tool inspects the internal file signatures to determine if your file is a text-based template, a hidden PDF, or even a rare proprietary format like EdgeTech sonar data or a Project64 joystick configuration. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your JSF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, JST, JSF 2, JSFB, SERE, JSV, JSL, JAVIER VALENTIN GOMEZ, JSP, JS, PNG, JPG and SJF files.

The JSF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JSF converter.
