About FED files

The .FED file extension is highly fragmented, primarily serving as an XML-based container for EU public procurement submissions. These eForms are processed by portals like Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) and national equivalents such as the Bulgarian Public Procurement Agency. A secondary, critical use case is the Axway API Gateway deployment file, which functions as a ZIP-compressed archive for configuring Axway AMPLIFY Central. Other highly specialized applications include facial expression data for the Techland Chrome Engine (via FaceFX), EASE acoustic loudspeaker data, NACHA Federal ACH transaction files, and proprietary hospital forms for Agfa HealthCare ORBIS.

Because these files serve highly specific, enterprise-level functions, they are exceptionally difficult to use outside their native ecosystems. XML-based .FED procurement files are prone to severe validation errors if modified in standard text editors. Axway deployment archives are proprietary packages; while standard ZIP extractors can open them, altering the internal configuration usually breaks the deployment checksum. NACHA transaction files rely on rigidly formatted flat text that banking systems will instantly reject if a single character is misaligned. The primary disadvantage of the .FED format is this extreme fragmentation - a single extension is shared across highly sensitive government, banking, and server environments, making blind conversion dangerous.

Users typically attempt to convert .FED files to standard, readable formats like XML, TXT, or CSV for data auditing, or to PDF for compliance archiving and human review. However, directly converting acoustic simulation data or 3D facial expressions into readable text is practically impossible without the original software, such as EASE Focus or FaceFX Studio.

This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it heavily relies on proprietary schemas and closed-source enterprise software. Often, only the original application can properly read, validate, or export the data safely. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure - like raw XML text or an embedded ZIP archive - viewing or converting the contents may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FED file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VTK, CGP and SKR files.

The FED Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FED converter.
