The .EVP extension is a classic example of "file extension overloading," where multiple unrelated software vendors use the same three letters. Most commonly, you will encounter this file as a Game Data Package within titles developed by Perfect World Entertainment (like Perfect World International or Jade Dynasty). In this context, the file serves as a proprietary container - similar to a ZIP or RAR file - storing 3D models, textures, and audio assets to keep game folders organized and slightly obfuscated.
The second frequent variant is an Encrypted Video Package or data wrapper associated with the Tencent Mars framework, often found in mobile application caches. These files are typically AES-encrypted to prevent users from extracting copyrighted media. A third, more accessible variant exists for UC Browser users: here, the .EVP is simply a renamed ZIP file containing user interface (UI) skins.
The catch is that .EVP files are rarely designed for end-user access. Game archives require specific "unpacker" scripts to extract the internal DDS images or WAV audio, and opening them in a text editor usually results in binary garbage. Tencent files are DRM-locked. However, if you have the UC Browser variant, the "proprietary lock-in" is an illusion; the operating system just doesn't know how to handle the extension.
