An .EVP file typically functions as a Game Data Package file used by Perfect World Entertainment or Miracle Castle for storing game assets like textures, audio, and 3D models. Another major use is as an Encrypted Video Package or secure application data file for the Tencent Mars framework. Additionally, software like UC Browser and EVP Systems use the .EVP extension for ZIP-based UI themes and XML-based financial data, respectively.
The main disadvantage of the .EVP format is its severe fragmentation. Because multiple unrelated developers use the exact same extension for vastly different architectures, users face extreme difficulty opening them. Encrypted files from Tencent or secure email envelopes from PostX require specific decryption keys. Game archives are compiled as proprietary binary blobs, meaning standard file viewers will only display garbled text.
