Convert a file to BVD
To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted Vault Container" file type, you need software like Bitdefender Total Security or a similar tool.
About BVD files
A .BVD file is primarily known as a Bitdefender Vault, a secure, encrypted container created by Bitdefender security software. These files function like virtual drives, locking sensitive documents, photos, or videos behind a password to protect them from unauthorized access or malware. While effective for security, this proprietary lock-in is a major limitation: you cannot open a .BVD file without the specific Bitdefender Total Security suite installed, and the contents are inaccessible if the password is lost. Users often find themselves needing to "convert" these files when moving to a different antivirus provider or recovering old backups on a machine that no longer has the software license. To make the data usable again, the contents must be extracted (decrypted) via the original software and saved into standard, open formats. For archiving, extracting documents to PDF or DOCX is recommended; for media, ensure you export to JPG or MP4.
Less frequently, a .BVD file may be a map tileset data file used by the vintage action RPG Blade & Sword. These are binary game assets used to render environments and cannot be converted into standard images without specialized game unpacking tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BVD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BVD file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Bitdefender Total Security or similar software from the "Encrypted Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to BVD, try Bitdefender Total Security or another comparable tool in the "Encrypted Data Storage" category.
The BVD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BVD converter.
