Convert BVD to another file type
To convert BVD vault files to another format, you need Bitdefender or other Encoded software.
Convert a file to BVD
To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted Security Container" file type, you need software like Bitdefender or a similar tool.
About BVD files
A .BVD file is primarily an encrypted file vault container generated by Bitdefender security software. Its main purpose is to lock sensitive documents, images, and folders behind strong encryption, typically requiring a user password to access. In rare cases, a .BVD file functions as a game map tileset containing level environments for the classic action RPG Blade & Sword.
The primary disadvantage of the .BVD format is severe vendor lock-in. Because it relies on proprietary encryption methods, standard extraction tools like WinRAR or 7-Zip cannot open or extract it. If you forget your password, or if you update to a newer version of Bitdefender that deprecated the File Vault feature, you risk losing access to your archived files entirely. The format requires a paid, active installation of specific Bitdefender software versions to read.
Users often attempt to convert .BVD files into standard archives like ZIP or TAR to regain access to their data without installing the antivirus software. Unfortunately, standard online converters fail to process these files because the encryption layer actively blocks access to the internal data structure. The only reliable extraction method is to unlock the vault within the original application and export the raw files manually.
This format is inherently difficult to open or convert due to its closed, proprietary security design. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects the unencrypted game map variant or a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BVD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BVD file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Bitdefender or similar software from the "Encrypted File Vault Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to BVD, try Bitdefender or another comparable tool in the "Encrypted File Vault Container" category.
The BVD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BVD converter.
