The .ERI file extension is most commonly an Entis Rasterized Image, a specialized 2D graphics format used by the EntisGLS game engine to render backgrounds and character sprites in Japanese visual novels. In the engineering sector, .ERI files are used to store telecommunication tower analysis and design data created by tnxTower (formerly known as ERITower). Additionally, a subset of these files is associated with ZebraDesigner Pro, storing label layouts for Zebra thermal printers using ZPL (Zebra Programming Language).
The main disadvantage of the .ERI format is its highly proprietary nature. Entis images are not supported by standard operating systems, image viewers, or web browsers. Without the specific game engine libraries, the image data remains completely inaccessible. Similarly, structural .ERI files require expensive, niche engineering software to open, making them impossible to share directly with clients or contractors. Zebra .ERI files are practically useless without compatible thermal printer hardware.
