About EPM files

The .epm extension serves two distinct, highly specialized masters, often creating significant confusion for users encountering them in data migrations or backups. Primarily, it functions as an Exported Physical Exam Template generated by Greenway Health's Prime Suite, a widely used Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. In this context, the file contains structured layouts for patient examinations, locked inside a proprietary database format that generic text editors cannot decipher. Alternatively, an .epm file may be an EMV Card Personalization archive used by Thales (formerly Gemalto) software like CardWizard. These are technically encrypted ZIP archives containing secure profiles for smart card provisioning.

The core friction for .epm files is strict proprietary lock-in and encryption. You cannot simply double-click these files to open them in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat. The Greenway template relies on the host application's specific schema to render text and fields, meaning the raw file looks like gibberish. Similarly, the Thales variant is secured by design; without the specific decryption key or the EPM-Xplorer tool, the content is inaccessible. For archiving or transfer, the only reliable conversion workflow is to access the file via the original software and export or 'Print to File' as a PDF. For the encrypted variant, changing the extension to ZIP occasionally allows users to inspect the container structure, though the data itself remains protected.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EPM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FMF, WF1 and ECG files.

The EPM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EPM converter.
