About EPL2 files
The .EPL2 format contains text-based machine commands written in the Eltron Programming Language 2. These files are primarily generated by shipping platforms, logistics systems, or design software like ZebraDesigner. They serve a single purpose: to instruct specialized thermal printers exactly how to position text, draw lines, and encode barcodes onto adhesive shipping labels.
The primary disadvantage of an .EPL2 file is that it is strictly a set of raw instructions, not a visual document. It cannot be opened natively in web browsers, standard document viewers, or image editors. If you open it in a text editor, you will only see lines of code, not the actual shipping label. This makes the file completely useless if you receive it but do not own a compatible Zebra thermal printer.
To view or print the label on a standard inkjet or laser printer, you must convert the .EPL2 file to PDF or PNG. Converting to PDF is highly recommended for printing because it preserves the exact barcode scaling required by postal scanners. For quick web previews, convert to PNG. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing specialized emulator software.

The EPL2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EPL2 converter.
