About EDK files
An .edk file is primarily a proprietary label and card design file created by Evolis Edikio software. Retailers and hospitality businesses use these files to design and print custom plastic price tags, buffet labels, and ID cards. Alternatively, the .edk extension is sometimes used by EasyDent dental management software for data storage, or by older systems as an Ensoniq KT disk image.
The Evolis Edikio software suite is the only official program that can properly open and edit these card designs. Because it is a highly specialized, proprietary format, you cannot preview an .edk file in a standard web browser or generic image editor. This creates major sharing problems. If you need to send a price tag design to a colleague or a commercial printer who does not own the Edikio software, they will be completely unable to open your file.
To make these designs accessible, users usually need to convert .edk files to universal formats like PDF, JPG, or PNG. Converting to PDF preserves the print-ready layout and text quality, while JPG or PNG are ideal for quick visual approvals. However, because the format is closed-source, standard online document converters consistently fail to process it.
This is where smart analysis comes in. The Edikio .edk file is actually built on a compressed ZIP archive structure containing internal XML layout data and embedded image assets. Just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Even if full layout rendering is restricted by the proprietary design, our engine can often unpack the underlying archive, allowing you to recover the embedded logos, product photos, and text.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EDK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EDK file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use Evolis Edikio or similar software from the "Card Design and Label Creation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to EDK, try Evolis Edikio or another comparable tool in the "Card Design and Label Creation" category.
The EDK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EDK converter.
