About EDA files

EDA files are specialized data containers used within the German Automated Judicial Dunning System (Automatisches Gerichtliches Mahnverfahren). These files facilitate the Electronic Data Interchange (Elektronischer Datenaustausch) between legal entities - such as law firms, debt collection agencies, and creditors - and the central dunning courts (Mahngerichte). They contain structured datasets regarding debtors, claim amounts, and interest calculations.

A common issue with .EDA files is that they are designed for mainframe processing, not human readability. They typically utilize strict fixed-width formatting or proprietary syntax that renders them illegible in standard text editors like Notepad or word processors like Microsoft Word. Without specialized legal software (e.g., RA-MICRO or AnNoText), users cannot easily verify the accuracy of the data before transmission or archive the claims in a standard format. Furthermore, strict validation rules mean even a single misplaced character can cause rejection by the court system.
