To convert other file formats to the "Java Archive" file type, you need software like Oracle_WebLogic or a similar tool.
About EAR files
The .EAR file extension represents two distinct, incompatible formats that often confuse users. The most common (56%) is the Java Enterprise Archive, a compressed directory used to deploy complex applications to servers like Oracle WebLogic or IBM WebSphere. Although these are technically standard ZIP files, they contain specific metadata (META-INF) and modules (.WAR, .JAR) that proprietary operating systems do not natively browse or execute. Users frequently need to convert these to standard ZIP files to inspect code structures, recover assets, or debug deployment descriptors without launching a heavy application server.
The second common type (40%) is the Electronic Arts Audio file, a legacy format used in older video games. These files are typically proprietary and locked, meaning standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player often fail to open them. Users holding these files are usually trying to extract game soundtracks or voice lines.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Java Archives: Convert to ZIP for immediate access to the internal file structure on any OS.
For Game Audio: Convert to MP3 or WAV to make the sound files playable on modern devices.

The EAR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EAR converter.
