About DVX files
The .dvx extension primarily identifies a Digital Mockup Validation file used within the Lattice Technology ecosystem (formerly associated with Division-X DIVA). These files serve as lightweight 3D visualizations for manufacturing and assembly reviews, notably used by companies like Nissan. While excellent for reducing massive CAD assemblies into viewable assets, the format is highly proprietary. You cannot open a .DVX file in standard 3D tools like Blender or SketchUp without conversion. This lock-in makes sharing difficult outside of engineering teams that possess the specific VridgeR or XVL viewing software.
Complicating matters, .dvx is frequently confused with DivX video files due to the naming similarity, though actual DivX videos typically use divx or avi. A smaller percentage of these files may be encrypted databases from Ascendo DataVault, which are strictly locked for security and cannot be converted without the master password.
For 3D visualization files, the best conversion target is 3D PDF for easy sharing, or standard mesh formats like OBJ or STL if you need to import the geometry into other software. If you suspect the file is actually a mislabeled video, converting to MP4 is the standard solution.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DVX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DVX file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Lattice XVL Player or similar software from the "Digital Mockup Validation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to DVX, try Lattice XVL Player or another comparable tool in the "Digital Mockup Validation" category.
The DVX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DVX converter.
