About DOK files
A .DOK file primarily functions as a desktop icon layout backup created by the DesktopOK utility. It saves the exact screen coordinates of Windows desktop icons in a standard UTF-16 (LE) text format. However, the .DOK extension is heavily fragmented and is also used by Assyst CAD for apparel pattern making, by WH OKNA for window and door manufacturing offers, and by the Turkish Ministry of National Education as a Document Management System file (Doküman Yönetim Sistemi). The main disadvantage of the .DOK format is this shared extension across completely unrelated software, which creates massive confusion. Users often struggle to identify what data the file holds. Assyst CAD files are proprietary binary formats that lock you into an expensive ecosystem. WH OKNA files are useless outside of their specific manufacturing environment. DesktopOK files, while text-based, contain coordinates that are meaningless outside the utility. Standard online converters fail to process .DOK files because they lack the specific decoders for these niche applications. If you have an Assyst CAD .DOK file, you should convert it to a standard format like DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) or .AAMA using the original Assyst software. For DesktopOK files, conversion is rarely needed, but they can be saved as TXT or CSV to read the raw coordinate data. Because these are highly specific, often closed proprietary formats, finding a direct universal converter is nearly impossible. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. Even if the file cannot be fully converted, our analysis tool can inspect the internal structure to determine whether it is a text-based layout, a CAD pattern, or a manufacturing database, helping you find the correct software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DOK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DOK file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use DesktopOK or similar software from the "Settings and Pattern Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to DOK, try DesktopOK or another comparable tool in the "Settings and Pattern Storage" category.
The DOK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DOK converter.
