About DMGPART files
.DMGPART files are split segments of a standard DMG (Apple Disk Image). macOS uses this format to divide large installers or backups into smaller, manageable chunks. This is usually done to bypass strict file size limits, such as the 4GB maximum file size on FAT32 formatted USB drives, or to bypass email attachment restrictions.
You can open and merge these files natively on macOS using Apple Disk Utility or the command-line tool hdiutil. On Windows, third-party extraction tools like 7-Zip or HFSExplorer are required, but they often struggle to reconstruct split Mac volumes.
The primary disadvantage of a .DMGPART file is its absolute dependence on the rest of the file sequence. A single part is completely useless on its own because the crucial file header and file system catalog are typically located in the first chunk. Furthermore, the format uses proprietary Apple compression (like ADC or zlib) and supports encryption (AES-128 or AES-256). This makes it notoriously difficult for standard online converters to process. It is inherently incompatible with web browsers and requires a Mac environment for reliable mounting.
To effectively use the data, you must first reassemble the segments into a single DMG file. From there, the best conversion target for cross-platform compatibility is an ISO file, which Windows and Linux natively support. Alternatively, extracting the contents directly to a ZIP archive prevents future format lock-in.
Because this is a segmented, often proprietary format, standard online tools frequently fail. If our analysis detects an unencrypted, supported underlying structure or if the sequence is intact, viewing or conversion to ISO or ZIP may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DMGPART file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DMGPART file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use Apple Disk Utility or similar software from the "Split Disk Image Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to DMGPART, try Apple Disk Utility or another comparable tool in the "Split Disk Image Storage" category.
The DMGPART Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DMGPART converter.
