About DKI files

The .DKI extension serves two distinct, proprietary roles that frequently cause compatibility headaches for IT administrators and archivists. Its most common iteration (approx. 60%) is a Keyboard Mapping Definition file used by Oracle Forms. These files dictate how terminal keys map to application functions. The problem users face is that .DKI files are often binary-compiled or compressed text versions of readable source files. You cannot simply double-click to view the configuration in a text editor; doing so results in garbled data. Users typically need to convert these to plain TXT or CSV to audit security permissions or migrate legacy keybindings to modern web-based forms without manually re-entering data.

The second variation (approx. 8%) relates to the Digitale Bibliothek (Digital Library) software by Directmedia. In this context, the file functions as a binary search index. These files are notoriously locked down, requiring the specific legacy viewer to access the content. When these applications become obsolete, the data trapped inside - often valuable bibliographic records - becomes inaccessible. For archiving, the best approach is converting the raw data to XML or CSV to preserve the structure, or extracting the content to PDF for long-term document retention.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DKI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IMZ, WIL and WLZ files.

The DKI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DKI converter.
