About DEMO files

A .DEMO file is primarily a Game Replay File created by various video games, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Teeworlds, TrackMania, and Hidden & Dangerous 2. Instead of storing actual video frames, these files record player movements, inputs, and events. The game engine reads this data to reconstruct the match in real-time. In a completely different context, a .DEMO file can also be a compressed ZIP archive used as a slider template import file for the WordPress plugin Nextend Smart Slider.

The biggest disadvantage of a game replay .DEMO file is its strict dependency on the original game engine. It is not a standard video file. You cannot open it with media players like VLC or web browsers. If the game updates its engine or physics, older .DEMO files often break or playback incorrectly. Furthermore, these proprietary files cannot be directly converted by standard online converters because they lack actual video and audio streams.

To share a match on YouTube or social media, users want to convert .DEMO files to standard video formats like MP4, WebM, or AVI. However, direct conversion is impossible for game replays. The realistic workaround is to launch the original game, play the .DEMO file, and capture the screen using recording software like OBS Studio. If your .DEMO file is a Nextend Smart Slider template, it is simply a renamed ZIP file containing images and configuration data. Converting it requires extracting the internal contents.

Because .DEMO files are highly specialized or proprietary, they are difficult to open or convert. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a compressed ZIP structure - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DEMO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DEM, ZST, BZ2, GZ, DOCX, PDF, BCH, TILE, COL and MP4 files.
