Convert a file to DDI
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Voicebank Dictionary" file type, you need software like Yamaha Vocaloid or a similar tool.
About DDI files
A .DDI file is primarily used as a Vocaloid Voicebank Dictionary by Yamaha Vocaloid software. These files contain phonetic and pronunciation data required to generate synthesized singing voices. Another common use is the DiskDupe Disk Image, a legacy format from Micro System Designs used to clone floppy disks in the MS-DOS era. Additionally, the extension is sometimes used for Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) metadata files, which are XML-based formats used by researchers to document social science data, or as a container for WebM video data.
Users frequently need to convert .DDI files because they are highly specialized, restricted, or obsolete. The Vocaloid dictionary files are closed-source and cannot be natively edited outside the Yamaha ecosystem. Legacy DiskDupe images are practically unusable on modern operating systems without emulation, requiring specific DOS utilities to extract their contents.
For conversion, if your .DDI is a Data Documentation Initiative file, it is structured as text and easily converted to standard XML or CSV. If it contains WebM video, renaming the extension to MKV or converting it to MP4 makes it playable. Legacy disk images usually need to be extracted or converted to standard ISO or IMG files to be mounted on modern systems.
Because many .DDI files are difficult to open or convert, standard online converters often fail. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, show internal text, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying format like UTF-8 text or an MKV container, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DDI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DDI file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Yamaha Vocaloid or similar software from the "Voicebank Dictionary & Disk Image" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to DDI, try Yamaha Vocaloid or another comparable tool in the "Voicebank Dictionary & Disk Image" category.
The DDI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDI converter.
