About DCP files

The .DCP extension most frequently identifies a Digital Camera Profile used by Adobe software like Lightroom and Camera Raw to interpret RAW sensor data. These files contain complex color look-up tables (LUTs) and tone curves that dictate how a camera's raw output translates to visible colors. The main friction point for photographers and retouchers is that .DCP files are compiled binaries; you cannot simply open them in a text editor to tweak a specific color matrix, nor can you convert them directly to standard image formats like JPG or PNG because they are instructions for images, not images themselves. To customize these profiles, users often need to convert the binary .DCP to editable XML using command-line utilities or specialized editors, modify the values, and compile them back.

However, the .DCP extension is also notably used in two other distinct technical fields. In hardware engineering, it represents a Design Checkpoint created by AMD Xilinx Vivado. These are proprietary snapshots of an FPGA design process, often exceeding hundreds of megabytes, and are strictly locked to the version of Vivado that created them - making them impossible to "convert" without the original environment. In the gaming world, .DCP serves as a data archive for titles built on the Wintermute Engine (like Black Mirror). Gamers often struggle to access the music or textures locked inside these archives. For these users, the goal is not conversion, but extraction of the internal assets to common formats like OGG, WAV, or BMP.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DCP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MP4, MXF, MOV, JPG, ASSETMAP, PNG, DCPARAMSBAK, DCPDIG, ICC, DCM, ZIP, CBZ and JPEG files.

The DCP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DCP converter.
