About DBG files

The .DBG file extension serves as a generic container for diagnostic information, utilized by a fragmented ecosystem of hardware and software vendors. While the most frequently encountered iteration is a debug report generated by Fortinet FortiAuthenticator or wireless controller logs from Ruckus Networks ZoneDirector, the format is also standard for fatal exception databases in MediaTek Android platforms and encrypted logs for Duo Security.

The catch for users is the format's ambiguity; a .DBG file can be a simple plain text log, a GZIP-compressed archive, a binary symbol table (functionally similar to PDB), or an encrypted database. Attempting to open binary or encrypted variants in standard text editors usually results in illegible "garbage" characters, while proprietary locks prevent access without specific vendor tools like IDA Pro or Visual Studio.

To make these files usable, the recommended conversion workflow depends on the internal structure:

Convert.Guru analyzes your DBG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DMP, LOG, ZIP, DSW, PDB and INL files.

The DBG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DBG converter.
