About DAY files

The .DAY extension is primarily associated with automated daily reporting, most notably used by Novitus fiscal cash registers to store transaction logs for tax compliance. These files are generated automatically by point-of-sale hardware and are rarely intended for direct user interaction.

The Problem: Users often encounter .DAY files when exporting data for audits or backups, only to find the format is not recognized by standard office software. Because they are often raw data dumps or proprietary text logs, opening them in Microsoft Word usually results in broken formatting or unintelligible character strings. Additionally, legacy systems using the Microsoft Jet Database Engine occasionally utilize this extension for database fragments, and some older backup tools create .DAY files that are actually just renamed ZIP archives.

The Solution:

Convert.Guru analyzes your DAY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VTU, PTS and VTX files.

The DAY Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DAY converter.
