A .DAY file is most commonly a Fiscal cash register daily report used by Polish fiscal hardware, such as the Novitus Mała Kasa. These files store a day's worth of transaction records, tax calculations, and receipts. The .DAY extension is also used for Microsoft Jet Database files (using the JetDB format), GRDC station data files from the Global Runoff Data Centre, and daily ZIP data archives generated by N.I.C.E. Axelerator software.
The main disadvantage of the .DAY format is its lack of standardization and extreme fragmentation. Fiscal .DAY files are often proprietary, strictly structured, and explicitly tied to specific local accounting software. They cannot be naturally opened by web browsers or standard text editors. Users typically need to convert these files into CSV, TXT, or PDF formats to audit sales data, share reports, or import records into modern accounting suites like QuickBooks or Xero.
