About CXM files
The .CXM extension is a classic example of a "container clash," shared by four distinct software ecosystems. You most likely possess one of these file types:
DATEV ProCheck Process: (Common in Germany) A compressed archive used by DATEV software to store business process checklists. Internally, this is often just a ZIP file containing XML data and resources. Users often need to convert these to PDF for documentation or archiving, which requires the DATEV ProCheck Viewer.
PokerStars Resource: A compressed configuration file used by the PokerStars client. These are essentially Compressed XML files (using Zlib) that store user interface settings or "notes." Modders frequently convert these to standard XML to edit HUDs or game settings.
Bernina Embroidery Design: A legacy or internal vector format used by Bernina Artista software. These files contain stitch coordinates for embroidery machines. To use them on non-Bernina machines (like Brother or Janome), you must convert them to DST or PES using Wilcom EmbroideryStudio or Bernina ArtLink.
WinDev Component: A compiled application part generated by PC SOFT WinDev. These are binary CAP files used exclusively by the WinDev runtime and cannot be manually converted or edited.
Common Friction Points:
Identity Crisis: Users often try to open a DATEV file in a text editor (resulting in garbage characters) or a PokerStars file in an unzip tool without renaming it first.
Proprietary Lock-in: Embroidery files often require expensive digitizing software just to view the pattern.
Hidden Data: PokerStars files are zlib-compressed, meaning standard XML editors cannot read them until they are decompressed.

The CXM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CXM converter.
