Convert a file to CXARCHIVE
To convert other file formats to the "Bottle Archive" file type, you need software like CrossOver or a similar tool.
About CXARCHIVE files
A .cxarchive file is a CrossOver Bottle Archive created by CodeWeavers CrossOver. CrossOver uses virtual containers called "bottles" to store isolated Windows environments. These bottles include a simulated C: drive, a Windows Registry, and installed software dependencies, allowing Mac and Linux users to run specific Windows applications natively. The .cxarchive format is used to export, back up, or transfer these configurations between computers.
This is a highly specialized, proprietary archive format. The primary disadvantage is that you cannot open, execute, or restore a .cxarchive file without an active, paid installation of CrossOver. Standard file extractors and operating systems do not natively recognize the extension. Users often mistakenly attempt to convert a .cxarchive directly into a macOS APP or a Windows EXE. This is technologically impossible because the file contains an entire virtual file system structure, not a single compiled program.
Users typically need to convert or extract this file to rescue data trapped inside the virtual C: drive, such as saved game files, exported documents, or customized configuration files. The best target formats are standard archives like ZIP or .TAR.GZ.
Because it is a closed format, standard online converters fail to process it. Under the hood, however, a .cxarchive is often built on standard compression protocols like gzip. If our analysis detects a supported underlying embedded format, viewing the internal directory structure or extracting it to a standard archive format may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CXARCHIVE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CXARCHIVE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CXARCHIVE converter.
