About CWB files
The .cwb file extension serves two distinct but specialized purposes. Most commonly, it represents a Digital Whiteboard Session created by collaboration platforms like Cisco Webex or Huawei IdeaHub. These files act as containers for real-time sketches, vector strokes, and annotations made during virtual meetings.
The Problem (Webex/Whiteboard):
Because .cwb files are proprietary, they essentially lock your brainstorming data inside specific conferencing software. A standard image viewer or web browser cannot open them. This is a key problem when you need to share meeting notes with stakeholders who do not have Webex installed or when you need to archive session data in a neutral format.
The Solution:
To make these whiteboard sessions accessible, the best workflow is converting them to PDF documents for professional archiving. For easy insertion into emails or presentation slides, converting the vector data to raster images like PNG or JPG is ideal.
Secondary Use (Audio Production):
A .cwb file may also be a Cakewalk Bundle file from Cakewalk by BandLab (formerly SONAR). Unlike a lightweight project file (.CWP), a Bundle file encapsulates the project data plus all associated audio waveforms into a single, often large, archive.
The Problem (Cakewalk):
While excellent for backing up projects, these massive files are difficult to share quickly. Furthermore, the format is exclusive to the Cakewalk ecosystem, making it impossible to open the project directly in other Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Logic Pro.
The Solution:
To migrate or share your music, the file must be opened in Cakewalk and the individual tracks exported to universal audio formats like WAV or MP3.

The CWB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CWB converter.
