The .CVP extension is a classic example of file format collision, primarily serving two distinct, incompatible industries.

First, it functions as the Project File for Cadvilla, a suite of professional architectural planning software. These files act as proprietary containers for 3D building models, 2D floor plans, and furnishing data. They are strictly intended for native editing within the Cadvilla ecosystem and cannot be opened by standard CAD tools like AutoCAD or viewed in a web browser. Users typically need to convert these to PDF for client review or DWG for collaboration with engineers.

Second, in the automotive and motorsports sector, .CVP stands for Continuous Velocity Plot. These are data files generated by Roehrig Engineering (now Penske Shocks) shock dynamometers. They store telemetry data using the Microsoft Compound File format, often accessible only via legacy software like WinDyn or Shock 6. Engineers frequently struggle to access this data without the specific hardware key (dongle) attached, creating a need to convert the raw hex data into CSV or XLSX for analysis in Microsoft Excel.

A minority of files may be WinVCard business card databases, though this usage is largely obsolete.
