About FFD files
An .FFD file is a multi-purpose data format most commonly utilized as a character save file for classic PC video games, or as a Function Definition Data file in developer tools. Because the extension is highly generic, it is also used for legacy FormTool filled forms, SharePoint dump logs, and geotechnical slope stability analysis data.
Depending on the file's exact origin, it might be generated by classic titles like Diablo II and WildTangent's FATE, or managed by specialized software like ff-Works and Rocscience Fast Field Forte.
The primary disadvantage of the .FFD format is its extreme fragmentation. Because dozens of unrelated, often obsolete applications share the exact same extension, your operating system rarely knows how to open it natively. If you attempt to open a binary .FFD game save in a standard text editor, you will only see scrambled characters. Furthermore, proprietary data stored in old software like FormTool is practically inaccessible on modern systems without dedicated workarounds.
Converting .FFD files requires knowing their original purpose. For legacy form files, converting the extracted data to PDF/A or CSV is highly recommended for long-term archiving. For developer logs, Flat File Descriptors, or SharePoint files, converting to universally readable TXT or XML is ideal. For game saves, traditional conversion is impossible; you must parse the raw hex data instead. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The FFD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FFD converter.
