Convert CVD to another file type

To convert CVD databases to another format, you need ClamAV or other Database software.

Convert a file to CVD

To convert other file formats to the "Virus Definitions / Vector Graphic" file type, you need software like ClamAV or a similar tool.

About CVD files

The .cvd file extension primarily represents a ClamAV Virus Database file used by the open-source ClamAV antivirus engine. These files store updated virus signatures and malware definitions required by the engine to detect threats. Alternatively, a .cvd file can be a Canvas Technical Illustration drawing created by Canvas X (formerly ACD Systems Canvas). These files store highly precise 2D vector and raster graphics used in engineering, aerospace, and technical documentation.

Both formats pose significant challenges for everyday users. ClamAV databases are compressed binary data files that are useless outside the antivirus engine and cannot be converted into standard printable documents. Canvas drawings are locked inside a proprietary, closed format that requires an expensive software license to open. Standard web browsers and mainstream design tools like Adobe Illustrator often fail to read them completely.

If you have a Canvas drawing, the best target formats are standard vector files like SVG, PDF, or EPS to preserve infinite scalability, though some proprietary metadata or specific layer effects may be lost.

Because this file format is difficult to open or convert due to its proprietary nature, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible. For example, since ClamAV files are essentially modified compressed TAR archives, our engine can often unpack them to reveal the raw signature data inside.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CVD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CDR, CSV, CDW, HDB, ANKI and DHT files.

FAQ

If you want to convert CVD file to SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use ClamAV or similar software from the "Virus Definitions or Vector Drawing" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to CVD, try ClamAV or another comparable tool in the "Virus Definitions or Vector Drawing" category.

The CVD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CVD converter.
