.CUS files are predominantly character customization data files used by video games, most notably Lost Ark and Elsword. They store exact configurations for a character's physical appearance, including facial slider values, hair styles, and color codes. Secondary uses include vehicle diagnostic parameter lists for Vector CANoe or Nissan CONSULT systems, custom dictionaries for AutoCAD, and compressed digital X-ray images for Carestream Health equipment.
The main disadvantage of .CUS files is their highly proprietary nature. Game-based customization files are strictly bound to a specific game client version. They cannot be opened natively on your operating system or viewed in a web browser. A common real-world limitation is regional incompatibility; for example, a preset created in the Korean version of Lost Ark will frequently fail to load in the Western release due to missing asset IDs.
Standard online converters fail to process game-based .CUS files because they mistake them for media files. You cannot convert a preset into a JPG or OBJ because the file contains no actual pixels or 3D geometry - only numerical instructions for the game engine.
