About CRASH files
A .CRASH file is a diagnostic log created when an application or operating system terminates unexpectedly. These files contain stack traces, memory thread states, and system information at the moment of failure. They are primarily generated by Apple iOS, macOS (via the CrashReporter service), and specialized software like Adobe After Effects, Avid Pro Tools, and games like World of Warships. You can typically read text-based crash reports using the macOS Console or standard text editors. Read more about Crash reporters on Wikipedia.
The main disadvantage of the .CRASH format is compatibility when sharing. Because the extension is uncommon outside developer environments, email clients and customer support ticketing systems routinely block .CRASH file attachments for security reasons. Furthermore, raw crash reports are visually dense and difficult for non-technical users to read. Some specific variants are also saved as raw binary memory dumps, which appear as corrupt data when opened in a standard text editor without a debugging environment like Xcode.
To share these logs with technical support or parse the data programmatically, conversion is required. Convert .CRASH to TXT to guarantee it bypasses strict email attachment filters. For web-based log analysis and developer ingestion, convert to JSON to extract the structured metadata. If you need to archive the error report or share it formally, convert to PDF.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CRASH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CRASH file to SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT, CMD, SCR, PIF or LNK, you can use Apple Console or similar software from the "Error Logging and Diagnostics" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to CRASH, try Apple Console or another comparable tool in the "Error Logging and Diagnostics" category.
The CRASH Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CRASH converter.
