About CMC files

.CMC files primarily function as multi-page project databases used by Clip Studio Paint. Rather than storing actual pixel data, the file acts as an SQL database that links and organizes individual CLIP image files into a single comic book or manga structure. Other common variations include Football Manager competition data files (which use ZIP compression) and comic collection databases for Comic Collector by Collectorz.com. A smaller percentage is used for 3D character clothing models in games like Second Life.

Because the .CMC file is a proprietary database format, it is entirely dependent on its parent software. The biggest limitation of the Clip Studio Paint variant is that it is strictly a directory map. The file itself is tiny, but relies heavily on external CLIP files. If you send a .CMC file to a client without the accompanying folder of images, they will see nothing but blank pages and missing file errors. Furthermore, it requires a paid license for Clip Studio Paint EX to utilize the page management features properly.

Users often attempt to convert a .CMC file into a PDF, JPG, or EPUB to share their comic with publishers. However, traditional online converters will fail because they look for image data where none exists. The best conversion target for a comic project is a PDF document, but this must be exported natively from the original software. If you have the Football Manager variant, the best target is a ZIP file, allowing you to extract the raw save data, though you will lose direct game integration.

This format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary extension containing either an SQL database, a compressed archive, or proprietary 3D data depending on the creator. Standard tools cannot distinguish between these sub-formats. We can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the compressed ZIP structure of a football save - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CMC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSD, SUT and LIP files.
