About CFL files
The .CFL extension is an ambiguous format primarily shared between Promethean ClassFlow interactive lessons and legacy CorelFLOW diagrams.
For educators, a .CFL file acts as a container for ClassFlow lesson activities, whiteboard slides, and quizzes. These files are essentially ZIP archives containing XML data and media assets. The main frustration here is the cloud-centric nature of the Promethean ecosystem; offline .CFL files are often useless without the proprietary software or an active internet connection to upload them back to the platform. They are not natively supported by web browsers or standard office suites.
Alternatively, if you are dealing with older archives, the file is likely a vector chart created by CorelFLOW, a diagramming tool from the 1990s. These utilize the Microsoft Compound file format but are now largely obsolete. Opening them in modern versions of CorelDRAW or Microsoft Visio is hit-or-miss, often resulting in missing shapes or corrupted text.
Best Conversion Targets:
- For Archiving & Sharing: Convert to PDF. This flattens the interactive elements of a ClassFlow lesson into viewable slides and locks the layout of CorelFLOW diagrams so they can be viewed on any device.
- For Web Use: Convert diagram exports to PNG or JPG for easy embedding in emails or websites.
- For Vector Editing (CorelFLOW only): Attempt conversion to SVG or EMF to retain scalability, though proprietary object definitions may be rasterized.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CFL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CHKN, CFA, PDF, FLIPCHART, YAR, PWB, CFG, CNF and PDA files.
The CFL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CFL converter.
