Extract text from CFC files
To convert your CFC file to another format, you need Adobe_ColdFusion or other Developer software.
To convert other file formats to the "Server-Side Script / Game Data" file type, you need software like Adobe_ColdFusion or a similar tool.
The .CFC extension creates a unique challenge because it serves two completely different user bases with distinct technical hurdles.
1. ColdFusion Components (Web Development):
Most commonly, a .CFC file is a ColdFusion Component used by Adobe ColdFusion or the open-source Lucee engine. These text-based files encapsulate application logic, database queries, and functions using CFML tags. The primary friction point is that .CFC files are server-side scripts; you cannot open them in a web browser (like Chrome or Edge) to see the result. You must have a running server environment to process the code. If you try to open one directly, you will see raw code rather than the intended functionality. For archiving documentation or sharing code logic with non-technical stakeholders, users often convert these source files to PDF or formatted RTF documents to preserve syntax highlighting without requiring a server.
2. Yakuza/Like a Dragon (Gaming):
A significant minority of users encounter .CFC files as Character Command Files in games developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Unlike the web scripts, these are proprietary binary files that control character animations and movesets. They are notorious in the modding community for being unreadable by standard text editors. To edit them, you must convert the proprietary binary data into a human-readable format like JSON or TXT using community tools (e.g., ParTool). Direct editing without conversion often corrupts the file due to strict byte-alignment requirements.
